Grüne Woche 2024 will bring well-known and unusual pets and farmyard animals to the capital. Animal fans will be able to meet cattle, horses, sheep, alpacas and more in Halls 25 and 27 from 19 to 28 January 2024

There will be mooing and neighing, barking and meowing at Grüne Woche 2024. In January, visitors to the fair will encounter popular and rare breeds of domestic and farm animals in Halls 25 and 27. This year, the focus will be on different breeds of cattle. Farmers from all over Germany will present their animals, a total of 15 different cattle breeds from A for Angus to Z for Zwergzebu.

Jersey cattle will be there for the first time. These animals are currently regarded as the most climate-friendly grassland utilisers. The reason: Jersey cattle are relatively light for their size and therefore compact the soil less. Old and endangered cattle breeds such as Pustertaler, Pinzgauer and Gelbvieh will also be on show in the animal hall at the Green Week. A real heavyweight is “Condor” – a Fleckvieh breeding bull from Bad Oldesloe, ten years old and weighing 1,500 kilograms.

Animal welfare barn creates opportunities for retreat

A special highlight in the animal hall (Hall 25) will be an animal welfare run. Feed troughs have been installed here, as well as various brushes and tree trunks to push around. An extensive animal show programme awaits animal lovers in the demonstration ring of the animal hall from 19 – 25 January. Various breeds of cattle, sheep and horses will be presented at 11:00, 13:00 and 16:00, and show riders, coachmen, goats, mules and donkeys will also be demonstrating their skills.

Hippologica heralds the start of the horse season

From 26 to 28 January 2024, the show ring in the Tierhalle will be dedicated entirely to horses. Hippologica, the horse show at Grüne Woche, attracts thousands of horse lovers to the Berlin Exhibition Centre every year. Renowned equestrian athletes from Berlin, Brandenburg and the neighbouring federal states compete against each other in dressage, show jumping and driving. The equestrian tournament marks the start of the Berlin-Brandenburg 2024 equestrian season, with the Berlin-Brandenburg Equestrian Sports Association and Messe Berlin jointly organising the top-class sports and tournament programme.

Numerous horse breeds will be on display for the entire duration of Grüne Woche – from large cold-blooded horses to compact Shetland ponies and fiery Spaniards to classic competition horses.

Pets move into Hall 27

Visitors can meet pets large and small in Hall 27. Owners and associations will be presenting donkeys, sheep, alpacas, dogs and cats as well as various terrarium and aquarium inhabitants such as lizards, spiders and fish. There will be demonstrations of dogs in a special activity area in Hall 27 for the entire duration of Grüne Woche: from dog dancing to “dogs with a profession” such as sheepdogs or hunting dogs. Exhibited breeds will also be presented, such as St Bernards, Labradors, various terriers, miniature bull terriers and Hungarian shepherd dogs.

For cat fans, there are Persian cats, Main Coons, Siamese, Burmese and Ragdolls, as well as Norwegian Forest Cats and British Shorthairs.
